Cooper S Rocker Gear
After assessing the rockers in my engine it was decided new ones were needed as they were completely worn out.
A quick hunt on eBay found some Cooper S solid rockers, which also have a greater ratio than the standard gear, so valves should open just that little bit more. Standard ratio is 1.25:1 and the Coopers setup is 1.3:1.
I got a new shaft and rebuilt the Cooper S assembly. I opted to retain my springs rather than the solid spacers as it could have resulted in a bit of a rattly engine for road use.
Here’s what I could’ve won!
Well, the guy who is helping me build my fast road A Series engine actually owns one of his own, and it can be found in his 1964 Austin Cooper. Producing 100BHP at the wheels, its 0-60 time is slightly more impressive than the previous recorded time you will have seen on this site.
I made it 7 seconds, and that was with me sitting in the back!
Engine Rebuild
Well progress is being made and I'm testing a new photo gallery! The engine now has a fresh coat of paint, the bores have been honed, the crank has gone to be reground, the carbs are away being soda blasted and a stack of new parts adorn my garage.
